Members in Action: UCRE (Utah Commercial Real Estate) Task Force

May 13, 2021
The UCRE (Utah Commercial Real Estate) Task Force was created to serve as a bridge between all of the Utah CRE associations and stakeholders, to give Utah’s CRE industry a collective voice in response to the industry’s needs during our recent COVID-19 pandemic.

CREW Utah members Ed Tallerico, Ronda Landa, and Leeza Evensen worked together to form the group, alongside Brandon Fugal and Scott Thompson. Other CREW Utah members currently include Josh Caldwell and Liza Hart.

There are many crossovers between CRE organizations. By coming together with a unified voice, the group can focus on shared interests to benefit the CRE community.

Over the past several months, the Task Force has been working in collaboration with PacifiCorp / Rocky Mountain Power (RMP), Utah Clean Energy, New Buildings Institute, Utah's stakeholders, and the Salt Lake Office of Sustainability. The goal of this collaboration was to focus on PacifiCorp / RMP's energy efficiency incentive offerings relative to Utah's commercial building industry and Utah's air quality.

A "Path to Net Zero" proposal was created, reviewed, modified, then vetted by professionals in the commercial real estate development field. The Task Force then submitted a survey to the commercial real estate stakeholders in the state. The survey results will be used to assist with drafting the final proposal.

The findings of this proposal was presented to PacifiCorp / RMP on May 4th to assist in the creation of their new energy efficiency incentive offerings to Utah's new building construction and major building retrofits for Utah's commercial real estate, state, city, county, and institutional stakeholders.

The Task Force encourages that anything we can do to work together to improve Utah's air quality and incentivize the commercial building industry is a win-win for Utah, for RMP and for all the stakeholders in Utah's commercial building development community.
